What is Ads.txt?
Ads.txt (Authorized Digital Sellers) is a simple, flexible, and secure method that publishers and distributors can use to publicly declare the companies they authorize to sell their digital inventory.
How to Use the Ads.txt Manager by AriseAds
Accessing the Ads.txt Manager
Log in to your WordPress admin panel.
Navigate to the AriseAds settings page.
Click on the “Ads.txt Manager” tab.
Understanding Ads.txt Status
At the top of the page, you’ll see the current status of your ads.txt file:
Ads.txt File URL: This is where your ads.txt file is located on your website.
Statuses:
“Live” (green): Means your ads.txt file exists and has content.
“Not Live” (yellow): Means your ads.txt file exists but is empty.
“Not Writable” (red): Means the file exists but can’t be modified by WordPress.
“File Not Found” (grey): Means No ads.txt file exists yet.
Last Modified: Shows when your ads.txt file was last updated.
Creating or Editing Your Ads.txt File
Scroll down to the “Edit ads.txt” or “Add ads.txt” section.
In the large text area, you can directly edit your ads.txt content.
Each line should follow this format:
domain.com,publisher-id,DIRECT/RESELLER,certification-id
Example:
google.com,pub-1234567890123456,DIRECT,f08c47fec0942fa0
After making changes, click “Update ads.txt” or “Create ads.txt”.
Uploading an Ads.txt File
Click the “Upload New ads.txt” button at the top of the page.
In the popup, select your ads.txt file from your computer.
Click “Upload“.
If an ads.txt file already exists, you’ll be asked to choose:
- “Replace”: This will overwrite the existing file with the new one.
- “Merge”: This will add the new content after the existing content.
Then click the Save button.
Viewing Your Ads.txt File
Click the “View ads.txt” button to see how your ads.txt file appears to ad networks and crawlers.
Downloading Your Ads.txt File
Click the “Download ads.txt” button to save a copy of your current ads.txt file to your computer.
Deleting Your Ads.txt File
Click the “Delete ads.txt” button.
In the wconfirmation popup, type “REMOVE” (in all caps) to confirm.
Click “Remove” to delete the file.
Validation
The system automatically validates your ads.txt content when you save or upload a file. If there are any errors, you’ll see messages explaining the issues. Common validations include:
Correct number of fields (at least 3)
Valid domain name format
Non-empty publisher ID
Account type must be either DIRECT or RESELLER
Valid certification authority ID format (if provided)
Best Practices
Keep your ads.txt file up to date with all your authorized sellers.
Use the correct account types (DIRECT for direct relationships, RESELLER for intermediaries).
Include certification authority IDs when available for extra verification.
Regularly check for any validation errors and correct them promptly.
