Sticky ads are a great way to keep an advertisement visible as visitors scroll through your website content. This guide will walk you through setting up and customizing sticky ads using the AriseAds plugin.
How to Activate the Sticky Ads Module
On your WordPress admin menu, click on AriseAds > Modules.
Next, click the Activate button under the Sticky Ads module.
On activation, click on the Manage button to access the module page.
See Activating/Deactivating the AriseAds Modules
Sticky Ad Stats
At the top of the page, you’ll find a “Sticky Ad Stats” section. This area shows you how your sticky ads are performing:
Clicks: The number of times visitors have clicked on your sticky ad.
Impressions: The number of times your sticky ad has been displayed to visitors.
These statistics are available for:
- Today
- Yesterday
- This Month
- All Time
Note: These stats are tracked directly by the plugin and might differ from what you see in your ad network dashboard (e.g., Google AdSense) due to different tracking methods and potential ad blocker interference.
Basic Settings
This section covers the fundamental setup of your sticky ad.
Ad Code
Ad Code
- Field:
Paste your ad code here
- What it does: This is where you’ll place the actual ad content. This can be HTML, JavaScript (like Google AdSense code), or a WordPress shortcode that generates an ad.
- Example: Your Google AdSense ad unit code.
- Recommendation: For sticky ads, an ad size like 720×90 pixels is often recommended, but ensure your ad code is responsive to look good on all screen sizes.
Sticky Position
- Field:
Sticky Position
(dropdown) - What it does: Determines where the sticky ad will appear on the screen.
- Top: The ad sticks to the top edge of the browser window. It will typically appear after the user scrolls past your website’s header for improved user experience.
- Bottom: The ad sticks to the bottom edge of the browser window and appears as soon as the page loads.
Hide Close Button
- Field:
Hide Close Button
(checkbox) - What it does: Controls whether visitors can close/dismiss the sticky ad.
- Unchecked (Default): A small “X” button will appear on the ad, allowing users to close it. This is generally better for user experience.
- Checked: The close button will be hidden, and the ad will remain visible unless a page refresh or navigation occurs.
Sticky Ad Styles
Customize the look and feel of your sticky ad container to match your website’s design or make the ad stand out.
Background Style
- Background Color: Choose a background color for the sticky ad bar.
- Text Color: Select the color for any text that might be part of the ad container itself (not the ad content, which is usually controlled by the ad code).
- Border Color: Pick a color for the border of the sticky ad container. If you don’t want a border, you can often set this to be transparent or match the background color, depending on the color picker options.
Close Button Style
These options only apply if the “Hide Close Button” checkbox (in Basic Settings) is unchecked.
- Background Color: Set the background color of the “X” close button.
- Text Color: Choose the color of the “X” icon itself.
Targeting
This section allows you to control precisely where and to whom your sticky ads are displayed.
Show on specific pages
Check the boxes for the types of pages where you want the sticky ad to appear:
- Homepage: Displays the ad on your website’s main front page.
- Search page: Shows the ad on pages that display search results.
- Single Post types: Displays the ad on individual posts, pages, and any custom post types you might have (e.g., portfolio items, product pages).
- Category page: Shows the ad on pages that list posts belonging to a specific category.
- Tag/archive pages: Displays the ad on pages for tags, date archives, author archives, and other archive views.
Important: The sticky ad will not appear on “404 Not Found” error pages, regardless of these settings.
Hide on Devices
- Field:
Hide on Devices
(dropdown – you can select multiple options) - What it does: Allows you to prevent the sticky ad from showing on certain types of devices.
- Options: Desktop, Tablet, Mobile.
- How to use: Select the device(s) on which you do not want the sticky ad to appear. For example, if you select “Mobile,” the sticky ad will show on desktops and tablets but not on mobile phones.
Hide for Logged-in Users
- Field:
Hide for Logged-in Users
(checkbox) - What it does: If checked, users who are logged into your WordPress site will not see the sticky ad. This can be useful if you don’t want to show ads to your site administrators, editors, or other registered users.
